TARA HOPE
COUNSELLING
Specialized Counselling
Relationships are fundamental to our human experience. When they work well, we feel secure and valued. Healthy communication and collaborative problem-solving are skills taught and learned at Tara Hope Counselling because healthy relationships - at home and at work - require them. Tara Hope is a skilled facilitator for couples and parents and children, offering effective strategies gained after years of professional and lived experience.

Having worked with many adults with a wide range of challenging relationships, Tara understands the pain of a worrisome, unhappy relationship situation. She loves working with people who seek self improvement and growth so they can empower themselves without disempowering their loved ones. Tara firmly believes you can learn to live your best life with or without your loved one's or co-worker's participation in the healing and growth process. In families, when one person changes, a positive rippling effect occurs, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly.

Individual Counselling
I work with individual clients from as young as age 12 provided:
(a) they want to work with me and are not mandated to do so; and, (b) I have a good working relationship with one or both parents/caregivers. The focus of my practice is on improving relationships with self and others. I support LGBTQ2S+ individuals and people of various religious backgrounds or none. I have expertise in neurodivergence, substance use issues, anxiety, grief and loss, chronic illness, caregiving, and the energy of emotions.

I offer a variety of therapeutic modalities with a strength, acceptance, and mindfulness based perspective. This work is collaborative, individualized, and aimed at creating positive change and personal empowerment.

Couples Counselling
I use attachment- and emotion-focused counselling to support couples to strengthen communication, deepen emotional and physical intimacy, and navigate life challenges with empathy, compassion, and actionable strategies with the aim of building trust, resilience, and lasting connections in partnership. I have the skill and ability to help couples work through tough, often chronic experiences, helping them find their way back to each other or establish a healing separation. My work with couples is also informed by the Gottman Institute, The Couples Institute, and other effective trainings.

Parent Consultations
These sessions are for parents and caregivers of children ranging from age 12 well into adulthood. Parents often seek my guidance when they don't know what to do to help their child who may be suffering with substance use issues, aspects of neurodivergence, anxiety, questions about their sexuality, school or work performance, or because they can't seem to communicate with their child without conflict arising. I often encourage the use of collaborative-problem solving for parents, which involves parents learning how to include their child (of whatever age) in the strategizing. I help parents gain clarity about their role in the relationship dynamic and help them devise a plan of action so they can move forward with decreased stress and frustration and increased confidence in themself and their child.
